Presentation of HCEU results at 3rd "Zukunftskongress Migration & Integration" in Berlin (DE)

The 3rd Future congress on migration and integration took place on September 14th and 15th in Berlin in the premisses of Press and Information Office of the Federal Government of Germany. The project coordinator DEKRA took the chance to implement a workshop together with Bertelsmann Stiftung on tools within validation of prior learning. Claudia Ball (HCEU project coordinator at DEKRA) and Dr. Martin Noack (Senior Expert at Bertelsmann Stiftung) presented different tools developed by both organisations along the validation process. Bertelsmann Stiftung focussed on tools relevant for identification, documentation and assessment of prior learning while DEKRA presented the HCEU competence development matrix as a tool to support assessment and certification processes in Europe.

The overall workshop has been highlighted by the involvement of a young nurse Irena who passed the whole recognition process on her way from Albania to Charité in Berlin (DE) facilitated by DEKRAs Expert Migration programm. She explained how important the recognition of her skills gained in Albania during nursing studies was for her as appreciation of her learning so far and as starting point for her career as nurse in Germany. Irena and Peter Klingler (Head of Expert Migration Germany at DEKRA) shared their experiences with recognition of nursing qualifications in Germany so far and underlined the need for transparent recognition processes in order to allow health care professionals interested in working abroad to be able to realise their decision especially under consideration that healthcare professionals are urgently needed in Germany and other EU countries. The HCEU competence matrix on "Professional Care" has been introduced as a tool to reach such transparency of recognition processes and has been received with great interest by the participants.
